November 2009 Journal
When a long tour campaign finally ends, the party begins..... except for me. If you have seen me hobbling around at any shows, it is because my hips are bad. I put off surgery until we closed up shop for a while. Last gig was September 23rd, I had surgery a week later on the 30th. I won't go in to all the gory details, like at the very beginning when I almost passed out while the nurse stabbed me seven times trying to get the IV in. Or when I woke up after the surgery with nausea and proceeded to puke for five hours straight. Or two days later in the hospital when no one could understand why my temperature kept rising. The party eventually started for me one month later when I decided not to miss out on my friend's Halloween party.
Going to this Halloween party also entails being the drummer in the band. Way ahead of my rehab schedule, I began practicing the drums three weeks after surgery, and a week later I felt ready to go. When choosing a costume I looked no further than the accessories I had inherited in the hospital. They say comedy is tragedy plus time. I am not sure enough time had passed but I was determined to have some fun with an extremely serious event in my life. Grandma Bogios was born! I played two sets and had an amazing time on Halloween. Grandma Bogios really knows how to party so I stayed in character all night long.
